This is always a bittersweet time of year. On one hand, we are excited for our graduating students and proud of their accomplishments on the other we are sad to see them go.
With that in mind, we are pleased to announce that Wilson Saucier is our Engineering Technology Student of the Year. Wilson is very deserving of this award. This year Wilson can celebrate many accomplishments – he has successfully completed our MEE-120 Dual enrollment with the University of Maine College of Engineering. He has also been accepted into the Power Engineering program at the Maine Maritime Academy.
Above all Wilson always seeks exceptionalism – always doing the best job possible at all times. Wilson is always considerate of others and has great integrity and a wonderful sense of humor. He is very mindful of others and always willing to help.
We are proud of Wilson and all his accomplishments and know that he will succeed in all his future endeavors.
Jaron Leach has attended the Presque Isle Tech Center for the past two years enrolled in the Building Trades program. When not in Building Trades Jaron also participates in cross country and track along with working at Bradly’s.
Jaron has used his ability and skills learned within the program for a number of class projects. He is one to be doing the work not watching work being done. He works well in a group as well as an individual. He is always looking to lend a helping hand to his classmates. Jaron is looking to continue his construction career at the next level and NMCC.
Jaron’s hard-working, determination, and good work attitude are all the ingredients needed for a student-adult leader. His working relationships with his peers, classmates, and teachers we’ll also serve him well in the future.

Alexa Perkins, a senior from Presque Isle High School, has been selected as the cosmetology program’s student of the year for 2021-2022. During her time in the program, Alexa has consistently demonstrated her love of our industry and willingness to remain dedicated to learning everything she can. Ultimately, Alexa plans to open her own beauty salon one day. With that goal in mind, she worked to absorb every kernel of knowledge she could gain in the theory classroom and practical lab, demonstrating to all of us her passion for this career field. Alexa’s dedication to her dream was evident both years as she regularly received high scores on her work, not only meeting industry standards but simultaneously elevating her creative skills through manicures, nail art, and hairstyling. The bulk of her senior year was spent learning the basic haircuts of our craft, which again, Alexa attacked with the drive of a person who has a specific goal in mind. Given her desire to own a salon and the newly instituted free community college education now offered to students affected by the COVID pandemic, Alexa plans to pursue the business and entrepreneurial end of her studies first by attending NMCC this fall for business administration and then attending SpaTech in Westbrook, Maine to complete her cosmetology studies. Without a doubt, Alexa Perkins will be cutting the ribbon at her salon’s grand opening in the very near future. Congratulations, Alexa – you’re a cut above the rest!

Morgan is a second-year student in early childhood and a senior from PIHS. In the classroom, she has great attendance, completes her work on time, and has a desire to learn. She also has a natural ability to connect and work with children. She is able to take the theories and information we learn in the classroom about child development and apply it to her interactions in the lab. When she walks into the lab setting with the children she can easily evaluate the room and determine where she is needed without being told. She has also developed great relationships with the kids, and actively joins them in their play. It is clear to those around her that she enjoys working with children.
In my program, students have a variety of responsibilities including serving food, cleaning, promoting teamwork, supporting the children, and making connections with the children. When Morgan is in the lab, she always ensures that everything is done. Even if it isn’t her responsibility, she will seamlessly step in and do it.
This year she has successfully completed her classes, which include four concurrent enrollments along with two additional college classes. This shows how dedicated she is to succeed. Next year Morgan is going to the University of Maine at Orono to major in psychology.
Congratulations on earning the Early Childhood program’s student of the year!

We would like to congratulate Xavier McAtee as Presque Isle Tech Center’s Business Student of the Year. Xavier is being recognized for both his academic achievement and leadership in the classroom. He comes to class prepared everyday with assignments completed to the best of his ability and willingly participates in classroom discussions. When classmates are in need of help, he is one of the first to offer his assistance. He has a positive attitude and a good sense of humor. He is responsible, respectful, and an attentive listener.
Xavier works well not only individually, but also in team settings. When asked to work in groups, he is a key contributor. He shares his ideas, helps everyone complete tasks, meets learning goals, and manages the project(s). He has proven this outside of the classroom as well through his participation in a variety of sports for Presque Isle High School.
We are happy to hear that Xavier McAtee is staying in the county! Upon graduation, he will be attending The University of Maine at Presque Isle, majoring in Business Management and Leadership. Additionally, he will be the goalie for the UMPI Owls Soccer Team. Although we are sad that he will be leaving the Tech Center, we know he will continue to do great things in his future and wish him the best of luck!
